Student Academic Resource Center

The Student Academic Resource Center (SARC) provides you with high-quality services such as: academic support programs, including tutors and retention programs, academic advising programs, and other programs and services to help you achieve your academic goals.

SARC provides students with free individualized and small-group tutoring in biology, chemistry, economics, foreign language, physics, reading, statistics, and many other disciplines.

Every semester, SARC offers a series of CLAST Review Workshops and classes for each of the four CLAST subtests. The staff can also prescribe self-paced programs specifically designed for CLAST preparation.

SARC's academic advisors provide academic guidance and support to a targeted group of UCF freshman (those in the College Achievement Program (CAP), and the Pegasus SuccessProgram). The combination of personal contact and appropriate academic referrals provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success in college.

In the fall 1996 semester, SARC began its Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program. SI is a series of weekly study sessions for students taking historically difficult courses. Students participating in SI can develop a better understanding of course content and more effective ways to study, thus increasing their chances to earn better grades.

Computer assistance is also available for the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and the MCAT.

Some students taking online courses may have a peer-assisted tutor to help them with their class as part of the SARC PALS Online program. The Peer Assisted Learning program was created to help increase student retention, performance, and persistence within Web based courses for students and faculty that may benefit from the service. PALS assist faculty in managing large web courses, assist students with technical problems (especially during the first week of the term) and offer facilitation support to students with varying abilities to support new types of study strategies required for successful learning online.
